Abuja – The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has been named Africa’s Best Road Safety Agency at the 3rd Kofi Annan Road Safety Awards, held in Eswatini, South Africa.

The award, presented by the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Road Safety in collaboration with the Kofi Annan Foundation, recognizes the FRSC’s nearly four decades of commitment to reducing crashes and promoting safer roads.

A Testament to Nigeria’s Leadership

In a statement issued Thursday by Corps Public Education Officer Olusegun Ogungbemide, the FRSC described the accolade as a “badge of honour” for Nigeria and a validation of President Bola Tinubu’s support for the Corps.

“This award justifies Nigeria’s giant strides in road safety and our leadership role in the sub-region,” Ogungbemide said. He attributed the achievement to the FRSC’s innovative strategies, including deployment of cutting-edge technology, public education campaigns, and partnerships with stakeholders.

Corps Marshal Reacts

FRSC Corps Marshal Malam Shehu Mohammed dedicated the award to the Nigerian public, calling it a product of “collective energy and unwavering support.”

“Our winning formula lies in collaboration—with motorists, communities, and global partners—to enforce safety protocols and save lives,” Mohammed stated.

Assistant Corps Marshal Meshach Jatau received the award on behalf of the FRSC at the ceremony in Eswatini.

The Kofi Annan Road Safety Award honors the legacy of the late UN Secretary-General and celebrates African institutions advancing road safety.
