Exclusive: Tinubu may appoint Zamfara governor, Bello Matawalle, as FCT minister

Must read

Daily Review: Barely a week after losing a reelection bid in Zamfara, Governor Bello Matawalle’s shocked defeat may be a blessing in disguise as the president-elect, Bola Ahmad Tinubu, considers appointing the outgoing governor to lead the Federal Capital Territory.

According to two sources close to the president-elect who strictly spoke on the condition of anonymity said Governor Bello Matawalle is the perfect man to be the new FCT minister as Bola Tinubu keeps trying to reward his loyalists who immensely contributed to his victory.

Governor Bello Matawalle was a Northwest campaign coordinator of the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign in the just concluded presidential election during which Tinubu won Zamfara with a wide margin and garnered millions of votes in Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, and Sokoto to win the election.

The Zamfara governor played a vital role in Tinubu’s victory, and his shocked defeat came as a huge surprise even to the president-elect.

“Bello Muhammad Matawalle will definitely be a minister under Tinubu’s presidency,” another source said, singling out the outgoing governor as the only influential figure from Zamfara would be carried along by the Tinubu administration.

“He is loyal to Tinubu and he played a key role that resulted in our victory,” another source said.

As Tinubu prepares to charge, his closest aides are tight-lipped about the people Tinubu would appoint in his cabinet.

“What I can assure is Governor Bello Muhammad will be a minister under Tinubu, and he is being considered to lead the FCT, but the conclusion has not been reached yet,” the source added.

Daily Review reached out to senior officials at Zamfara Government House in Gusau, and there is no response at the time of publishing this story.
