A group of concerned citizens of Bauchi yesterday donated books to an orphanage home as part of activities to promote reading culture as well as encouraging the children to read more. The leader of the group, Bashir Aliyu, said that the initiative will improve the mental health condition of orphans and other vulnerable children who have no access to comic books.
He said the group designed an initiative to contact well meaning individuals to help gather books for orphanage home visit on yearly basis or read books for orphans inhabiting the orphanage.
He called on the orphans to ensure regular hand-washing practices to prevent themselves from contracting diseases easily, adding that they ought to be drinking a lot of clean water every day.
The officer In charge of the Orphanage Home State Low-cost Housing Estate Bauchi, Malama Mairo Malami appreciated the efforts by the group and called on well-meaning Nigerians to emulate the gesture, saying children love books, and the donation would further motivate the kids to develop reading habit in the long run.
On his part, Bashir Aliyu who led the delegation of 10 people, said the books were donated by individuals from different parts of Nigeria.
“I would like to use this opportunity to thank people like Alhaji Ibrahim Imam, Garba Police, Isah Ismail, Bayo Na-Allah, Joseph Yohanna Wang and Yusuf Bello, and other anonymous donors who donated a lot of books and money to buy the books. We really appreciated it.” He said
