Must read

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is preparing to launch its Strategic Action Plan for 2024-2028, alongside a groundbreaking podcast called “EthicsPod,” designed to engage and educate young Nigerians about the fight against corruption.

This pivotal event will take place this week and is expected to attract key government officials, including Senator George Akume, who will represent President Bola Tinubu. Other notable attendees include the Chairpersons of the Senate and House Committees on Anti-Corruption, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon. Yusuf Tuggar. The launch is supported by the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Programme (RoLAC).

The new Strategic Action Plan marks the beginning of a fresh five-year roadmap, following the successful execution of the 2019-2023 plan. According to ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare, “This plan reflects our commitment to innovative strategies in combating corruption and fostering integrity in Nigeria.”

Since its inception in 2004, the ICPC has regularly reviewed its objectives every five years, focusing on assessing its current status, setting future goals, and prioritizing initiatives.

A significant highlight of the launch will be “EthicsPod,” a bi-weekly podcast that aims to empower young Nigerians to take a stand against corruption. “We want to create a platform that not only informs but also engages the youth in the fight for transparency and accountability,” said Bakare.

The podcast will feature discussions with experts, beneficiaries, and victims of corruption, sharing real-life stories to highlight the issue’s impact and provide listeners with practical tools to combat corrupt practices. “EthicsPod is integral to our mission to increase public reporting of corruption cases by the end of this Strategic Action Plan,” Bakare added.

Through these initiatives, the ICPC aims to strengthen its role as a leader in the anti-corruption movement, fostering a culture of accountability and integrity across Nigeria.
