The New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, has defeated the All Progressive Party to win Saturday’s governorship election in Kano State.
Abba Kabir Yusuf of the NNPP was declared the winner with 1,019,602 votes against his closest rival, APC’s candidate, Nasir Gawuna, who polled 890,705 votes.
The Independent National Electoral Commission Returning officer, Prof Ahmad Doko Ibrahim, announced Yusuf as the winner of the Kano gubernatorial election on Monday morning.

No sooner had the returning officer announced Abba Kabir Yusuf as the winner than a wild celebration erupted all over Kano thousands of people took to the street to celebrate the victory of the NNPP candidate who lost the election four years ago under a marred rerun election which was characterized by violence and intimidation of voters.
“I am really excited by this news,” said Adam Ibrahim who got woken up by the thunderous celebration shortly after Abba Kabir wins the election. “I never thought Abba Gida-Gida would make a comeback,” he added.
