Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Friday as Eid-el-Fitr, following the sighting of Shawwal, 1444 AH in many places across the country.
According to the statement by the Sultan, the new moon has been sighted in various places in Nigeria.
The announcement means Nigeria will join the rest of the Muslim countries around the world to celebrate the end of Ramadan on Friday.
In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Sudan, Qatar, Yemen, Syria, Iran, and Lebanon are all celebrating Eid-el-Fitr on Friday.
The Sultan called on the Muslim umma to continue to live in peace.
