Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea pledge to deepen economic ties

Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea have pledged to strengthen economic ties and explore more areas of cooperation in order to boost growth and stability in the Gulf of Guinea. 

This contains in a joint signed by Alkasim Abdulkadir, a Senior Special Advisor on Media to Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar. 

On August 14, President Bola Ahmad Tinubu led a high-level delegation Malabo to meet with the President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo and discuss various areas of cooperation and partnership as two countries continue to deepen ties on climate change, security on the Gulf of Guinea, energy and drug trafficking. 

The two countries also reaffirmed their call for Africa to be given a permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council to be able to protect African interests on the global stage. 

Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea also pledged to redouble their efforts towards the actualization of the United Nations 2030 Agenda and African Union Agenda 2063 which seek to achieve success in sustainable development, eradication of extreme poverty and climate change. 

The two heads of the state showed resolve to work together and counter the threats posed by terrorism and piracy in the Gulf of Guinea. 

At the end of the visit, President Bola Ahmad Tinubu formally invited President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo to visit Nigeria which he agreed. The details of the visit will be announced by the Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in due course.
