Nigerian political climate in a tumultuous atmosphere

Must read

By Isah Aliyu Chiroma

Ambition and proclamation are now rushing very quickly through the calm atmosphere of politics. Candidates continue to declare their intent to run in the upcoming elections because of the matter of extreme urgency that reflect the current circumstances.

Under this climate that has pervaded the political parties, the citizen are carrying the promises that have been carefully saved in their memories. It’s time to decide their future and that of the next generation for something that is more more symbolic than just worth a single day of concern. This is how much little token are used to buy our votes and this is something we can change.

Everyone is trying to sow the seeds of his thoughts to harvest them during the upcoming election as the political climate is tense. However, the new weather that created the atmosphere looks to be something that is hidden from sight, and it appears to be a dual climate. Youth participation is presumed to be absent, the unfamiliar new cloud that the environment is used to.

Now is the time to gain the support of the electorate by buying their trust. But we need someone who will navigate our beloved country and guide it to greatness in the future. Every voter in this procedure must select the candidate they believe will steer the ship away from the wind and storm and prevent a wreck.

Politicians have taken the helm of Nigerian politics since the establishment of the second republic. Different drivers with various maps were combined into various political climates in an effort to determine which suited us the best. This gave some people the chance to lay down a solid plan, but some people took advantage of the chance and abused it, causing confusion and turbulence in the environment.

I’m not good at politics, but from what little I’ve learned about the past, the military has always stepped in to turn the ship back in the right direction when some of our captains have steered it in the wrong path. We have witnessed the military intervene in some nations to spare them from disaster, likewise even our own.

Why does the military always step in when they spot risks coming? someone may wonder. To clean up the mess and keep the nation from being destroyed. However, military action in politics has the potential to seriously undermine democracy in some cases.

Nigeria’s current political environment merits attention. Much harm has been done over the years since it was given to the people to control themselves. The military is no longer necessary to fulfill a crucial role. I believe that we have reclaimed our senses and are aware of what is best for ourselves.

The election is a means of providing us with the chance we require to change the situation and bringing someone who can steer the large ship. This ship has always capsized because it was poorly controlled and sailed toward a sandstorm that disrupted the nation and caused chaos, not because we haven’t had skilled drivers over the years. And I believe that after all these years of hardship, we have learned a lot. The worst aspect was that the drivers paid a price for their recklessness. They were unable to construct an environment that would be helpful to them. There are many new parties rising; but it demonstrates how diverse our society has grown in those years and the urgency to take action.

Let me say this: selecting a capable leader is something that every citizen is expected to do. Any leader, regardless of race or creed, is prepared to forgo his comfort in order to serve the people. To have a sustainable life and growth, which will benefit everyone starting from the grassroots, where much attention is needed, we must reconstruct our society and nation. There are certainly many gaps that need to be filled, but only a determined leader with inspiring ideas and goals can do that. If we constantly make the same mistakes, selling our votes and keep crying, we will keep remaining on that same spot we always complained.

It’s time to take control of our destiny and rebuild our nation. We are the ones who bear the duty; in order to see the change, we desire, we must change ourselves. The time is almost here, the environment is prepared, and yes, we can bring about the change we desire!
