The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has condemned the murder a medical doctor, Dr. Iluobe by the relatives of a patient admitted to Ogbara Medical Center, Delta State where the patient died from gunshot wounds.
In a press release which was made available to Daily Review Newspaper, Dr. Uche Ojinna describes the killing of the medical doctor as “unbelievable” as he called on the authorities to do whatever it takes to punish the assailants who killed the medical doctor in response to the death of their relative from the gunshot wounds.
“While we sympathize with the family of the patient that was lost, we strongly condemn this murder and call on the Government of Delta Delta State and Inspector General of Police to as a matter of urgency bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to book so as to assuage the pain we feel. A man should be murdered for the selfless act of being on duty on New Year’s Eve,” he said.
The union also calls on the authorities to enact laws that protect medical workers from being targeted for their altruistic works as the country is battling mass exodus of medical doctors which is causing brain drain.
Daily Review learns that the relatives of the dead patient were angered by the doctor’s failure to save their critically wounded relative after he was shot.
The association vows to follow up the case and keep fighting for justice until the killers are brought to book.
