Gov. Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers says his administration will continue to support President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms to promote peace and prosperity in the country.

Fubara made the remarks at Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day Anniversary Parade at the Government House Arcade on Tuesday in Port Harcourt.

He promised to support the President’s economic reforms in-line with his focus on critical projects’ sustainability as the state witnessed an increase in its Internally Generated Revenue.

According to him, he will focus on delivering critical projects, promote peace, and good governance in spite of the current political challenges in the state.

The governor acknowledged some heroic sacrifices by the nation’s founding fathers, leaders, brave men and women, who had made numerous achievements in sustaining freedom and promoting the unity and progress of the country.

“The vision of our founding fathers at independence was to build a united and secure nation anchored on the values of brotherhood, democracy, justice, and the equality of all peoples, tribes and nations,” he said.

The governor expressed concern over challenges of insecurity, economic hardship and political crises bedeviling the country after 64 years of self-rule.

He said the state government would join hands with the Federal Government in its quest for good governance.

“Let us also commit ourselves to work hand in hand with the Federal Government to tackle the economic, social, and political challenges, including judicial terrorism, nepotism, corruption, and abuse of power that threatens our democracy.

“We will overcome all our challenges, and prevail over the enemies of progress if we uphold our commitment to democracy and the rule of law,” he added.

The governor said that the remodeling of some hospitals in the state including that in Ahoada, Bori, Degema, Omoku, and Bonny general hospitals were ongoing.

He added that work had commenced on the new General Hospital in Rumuigbo community as well as the ultra-modern Psychiatric Hospital in Obio/Akpor Local Government of the state.
