Mexico and Nigeria have signed a deal to import dried sorrel flower known locally as zoɓo rodo from Nigeria.
The NTA reported that Mexico was the largest importer of sorrel tea in the world before the country stopped the import in 2017.
Dr. Vincent Isegbe, the managing director at Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service signed a deal in Mexico City with his Mexican counterpart, Javier Arriaga.
“This trade agreement will certainly improve economic ties with Mexico,” said Nigerian ambassador to Mexico, Rafiu Adejare.
The ambassador added there, presently, there are Mexican nationals who are investing in farming in Gombe State.
In 2017, Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service, estimated that the country earned over $35 million from exporting sorrel and hibiscus flowers to different countries in the world.
