(Bauchi-Nigeria) Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, paid a condolence visit to Bauchi State to mourn the passing of the revered Bauchi-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Idris Abdulaziz, who passed away on Thursday’s night in Bauchi after a prolonged illness.
Ambassador Tuggar, who was received by the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, alongside prominent religious and community leaders, expressed his deepest condolences to the family of the late Sheikh Abdulaziz and the entire people of Bauchi State. The visit took place at the residence of the late cleric in Bauchi city.
Sheikh Idris Abdulaziz’s Legacy
Sheikh Idris Abdulaziz, a highly respected Islamic scholar, was known for his deep knowledge of the Qur’an and Hadith. He was a guiding light for many in the state and beyond, particularly in the area of religious education and social development. His death has left a significant void in the hearts of many, especially his followers and those who benefited from his teachings.
In his remarks, Ambassador Tuggar described the late Sheikh as a “true servant of Allah” whose contributions to the Islamic community and society at large would not be forgotten. He emphasized the Sheikh’s role in promoting peace, unity, and religious understanding among people of different backgrounds in the region.
Ambassador Tuggar’s Condolences
Ambassador Tuggar, who is a prominent figure in Nigeria’s diplomatic community, stated that his visit was a sign of solidarity with the people of Bauchi and the family of the late Sheikh. On behalf of the Federal Government and the people of Nigeria, I extend my heartfelt sympathy to his family, the people of Bauchi, and all those whose lives he touched,” Ambassador Tuggar remarked.
Minister Tuggar Attends APC EXCOS Meeting
In addition to his condolence visit, Ambassador Tuggar also attended the All Progressives Congress (APC) Executive Committee (EXCOS) meeting in Bauchi, where party leaders convened to discuss strategies for strengthening the APC’s position in the state. The meeting focused on plans to wrestle control of Bauchi State from the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
During the meeting, Ambassador Tuggar, alongside key members of the APC leadership, emphasized the importance of a unified approach to achieving electoral success in the 2025 elections. He called on party members to remain focused on the party’s vision for the state and work together to present a strong alternative to the PDP-led government.
“The APC is committed to bringing change to Bauchi State, and we will work tirelessly to ensure that we provide the people with leadership that is focused on their well-being and development,” Ambassador Tuggar stated during the meeting.

The condolence visit by Ambassador Tuggar was attended by various religious leaders, political figures, and community members, all of whom expressed their admiration and respect for the late Sheikh Abdulaziz.
