The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man for the alleged murder of his mother, Salama Abdullahi, in the Abujan Kwata area of Bauchi metropolis.

According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesman, CSP Ahmed Wakil, on Tuesday, the suspect reportedly killed his 40-year-old mother using a pestle following a heated altercation.

The incident, which occurred on February 24, was reported to the police by members of the Peace and Security Committee in the Abujan Kwata area around 3:00 pm.

“The suspect allegedly assaulted his biological mother with a heavy pestle, causing fractures to both of her hands and other severe bodily injuries,” Wakil said.

Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Abdullahi Muazu, led a team of detectives to the scene. The victim was immediately rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital in Bauchi for medical attention. However, a medical professional later confirmed her death.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the attack was triggered by an altercation between the suspect and his mother. The police have since recovered the pestle used in the assault as evidence.

The Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammed, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

Wakil added that the suspect would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
