Abuja-Nigeria– Operatives of the Benin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested Kelly Okungbowa, popularly known as Ebo Stone, an official of the Edo State Government, over alleged abuse of the naira.

Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity for the EFCC, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Monday in Benin.

Okungbowa, who served as the Coordinator of the Edo State Public Safety Response Team (PSRT) before his recent suspension, was also the Chairman of the State Asset Recovery Committee.

According to Oyewale, Okungbowa’s arrest followed the circulation of a viral video showing him spraying and mutilating the naira at a social event. The EFCC spokesperson stated that the act violates the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) regulations on the handling of the national currency.

Oyewale added that Okungbowa would be charged to court as soon as investigations into the matter are concluded.

The arrest underscores the EFCC’s commitment to enforcing laws against the abuse of the naira and maintaining the integrity of the national currency.
