Flood: Emir Bayero urges govt to prioritise dams’ maintenance

The 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu -Bayero has called on the federal and state governments to prioritise the maintenance of dams to prevent flooding, protect lives and properties of the citizens.

He emphasised the importance of deploying experts to monitor and inspect dams nationwide, ensuring that they are in good condition for the well-being of all the citizens.

Bayero told the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) on Thursday at his mini-palace in Nasarawa that such an approach would go a long way to safeguard lives and properties of the citizens.

 Bayero expressed sympathy for the people of Borno and other areas affected by the recent devats floods, which have resulted in loss of lives and property.

He stated that the prompt maintenance of dams was essential to prevent flooding and the eventual devastating unpalatable consequences.

Bayero commended President Bola Tinubu’s efforts towards alleviating the prevailing economic hardships through various programmes and policies.

He explained that the president’s support to the citizens would go a long way in settling those victims affected.

The emir said,  “I am strongly appealing to well-to-do Nigerians, corporate organisations and indeed the international community to continue to support the victims.”

Bayero appealed to the government and citizens alike to highlight the need for collective actions to prevent the recurrence of such natural

disasters.

He also called on Nigerians to continue to pray for the leaders to ensure the entrenchment of good governance in the country.
