Flooding: Yusuf calls for community-led drainage cleaning efforts

Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State has urged communities to step up efforts in clearing waste from drainage to prevent flooding and improve environmental quality.
Yusuf spoke at the distribution of clearing items for community development associations in Kano’s eight metropolitan Local Government Areas on Tuesday at Government house Kano.
The Governor also emphasised the need for collaborative efforts to achieve the initiative’s goals.
The State Government has provided equipment, including wheelbarrows, shovels, hand gloves, diggers, and first aid boxes, to support the community-led drainage cleaning efforts.
Yusuf charged the communities to take ownership of waste evacuation from drainage and ensure proper utilisation of the provided equipment.
Alhaji Ibrahim Umar, Chairman of the Community Development Associations in Kano, praised the government’s initiative.
Umar assured that the associations would work tirelessly to ensure the successful utilisation of the materials to achieve the desired environmental improvements. (NAN)
