Must read

The North-East Development Commission (NEDC), on Sunday inaugurated a modern cattle market at Soro village in Ganjuwa Local Government Area of the state.

Mr Mohammed Alkali, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the commission, stated this at the inauguration of the project.

He said said the market project was part of measures to modernise livestock trade, encourage commercial activities and boost state revenue base.

The gesture, he said would go a long a way to revamp the social and economic wellbeing of the people in the region.

“This new cattle market will enhance business operations in Soro and Bauchi state as the market is one of the biggest in terms of cattle sales in the area.

“The market is designed to be one of the major sources of revenue and employment for the people of the state.

“History has it that the old market had been a source of revenue but because of its former location, it led to the death of many people over the years, the more reason the NEDC intervened.

“Every citizen of the North-East subregion has a stake in the market,” he said.

Alkali urged the state government and the Soro community to ensure protection of the facilty.

Gov. Bala Mohammed, said the market was providing employment opportunities to the youths and pledged to ensure its effective utilisation.

Represented by Yakubu Bello, the Permanent Secretary, Bauchi State Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Mohammed commended the gesture.

“Having completed this project, the government is soliciting for more projects of this nature in other Local Government Areas that have large cattle markets in the state,” he said. (NAN)
