Tuggar pushes for deeper cooperation between Nigeria and France

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency, Ambassador Yusuf TUGGAR calls for deeper cooperation between Nigeria and the France in order to promote democracy, economy and regional security in West Africa. The foreign minister, Tuggar made the call during call with his French counterpart, Catherine COLONNA who congratulated him on his recent appointment as Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The French Foreign Minister, Mrs. Colonna told Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar that France is actively deepening its ties with Nigeria following Tinubu’s visit to France earlier this year. She informed Tuggar that French President, Emmanuel Macron has made a priority to deepen bilateral ties with Nigeria.

The French top diplomat assured Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar that France would continue to support ECOWAS as long as it takes as the regional block attempts to restore constitutional order in the country following the overthrow of President Bazoum Muhammad by the military earlier last month.

Minister TUGGAR stated that ECOWAS said the ongoing effort to maintain maximum pressure and sanction regime on the country’s leadership are aimed to forcing the junta to a negotiation table in order to find a diplomatic solution to the constitutional crisis in Niger.

The Nigerian Foreign Minister also said the possible use of force to restore democracy in Niger remains on the table, but he emphasized that military intervention would be the last resort.

Daily Review reports that Catherine Colonna is the second European diplomat to call Tuggar in two days.
