Poverty Alleviation: FG releases N24.8bn for payment of 991, 261 households

As part of its efforts in cushioning the impact of the prevailing economic hardship in the country, the Federal Government of Nigeria through the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA) has released the sum of N24, 781, 525, 000 paid to 991, 261 households across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In a statement made available to newsmen, the National Coordinator, NSIPA, Assoc. Prof. Badamasi Lawal Ph.D, explained that In August 2024, 153, 038 household beneficiaries received the sum of N3, 825, 950,000.

While he disclosed that in September 2024, the sum of N20, 995, 575,000 was paid to 838, 223 household beneficiaries across the 36 states and the FCT.

According to him, the strategic move by the federal government has resulted to enormous economic benefits to poor and vulnerable households which include, immediate poverty reduction, improved households finances and savings ability of the beneficiaries, among other benefits.

He said,”The Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, aims to alleviate poverty and improve the livelihood of poor and vulnerable Nigerians . The National Cash Transfer Office under the National Social Investment Agency (NSIPA), has released the sum of N24, 781, 525, 000
for the payment of 991, 261 households beneficiaries across 36 states and the FCT Abuja.

“In August 2024, a total number of 153, 038 household beneficiaries received the sum of N3, 825, 950,000. Similarly in September 2024, the sum of N20, 995, 575,000 was paid to 838, 223 household beneficiaries across the 36 states and the FCT. Each of the beneficiary received N25000 through their Financial Services Providers (FSP).

“The Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer (RH-CCT) is aimed to cushion the economic shocks of the beneficiaries who are mostly the poor and vulnerable Nigerian households.

“The economic benefits include but not limited to immediate poverty reduction, improve and households finances and savings ability of the beneficiaries.

“The health benefits provide opportunities for the beneficiaries to improve their health and nutritional services.”

He added that the emotional and social benefits include livelihood, interpersonal relationship and family happiness.
