The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday inaugurated a 305-member National Campaign Council for the Nov. 16 governorship election in Ondo State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu is the Chairman of the campaign council.
Gov. Nasir Idris of Kebbi State is the Deputy Chairman 1; Gov. Bassey Otu of Cross River as the Deputy Chairman 2, while Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege will serve as the Secretary of the committee.
Inaugurating the campaign council in Akure, the National Chairman of APC, Alhaji Abdulahi Ganduje, noted that President Bola Tinubu is from the region; the party must mobilise and ensure Ondo State remained in the progressive fold.
“I now handover the working instrument for this council to the chairman. This campaign council will work with the local campaign council and this national campaign council will form a strong synergy with the local campaign council.
“The President is doing reforms for the social economic investment of the country. Mr President is from this geopolitical zone, in other to show respect and appreciate him, you should vote APC.
“In this geopolitical zone, we must mobilise to ensure that we win this election; we are here to create enabling environment, so that the election will be free and fair, to ensure we win,’’ Ganduje said.
The Chairman of the Campaign Council, Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in his acceptance speech, appreciated all former aspirants for turning up in large numbers to support the party’s candidate.
Sanwo-Olu said he was in the same position four years ago in the re-election bid of late Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu and he delivered.
“I was also uniquely privileged to serve as the national campaign council for this election four years ago.
“I will do everything continually within the norms of every election to campaign on issues (work) that the governor has done and we have something to campaign for. We will deliver more than 85 per cent of vote cast,” he said.
Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, while speaking at the even, appreciated the vision of the President for the party and the country.
He also appreciated the people of the state for the exceptional show of love for the party.
“Remarkably, within our 10 months in the saddle, we have activated the construction of not less than 70km of rural roads to provide access to our farm settlements and villages.
“This is in addition to the new 60km city based roads recently awarded alongside the ongoing roads, bridges and public building projects initiated and awarded by our administration,” he said.
The State Chairman of APC, Mr Ade Adetimehin, expressed confidence that the party would “win the election massively.”
