Abuja – Key leaders of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) have strongly dismissed rumors of defection, reaffirming their unwavering commitment to the All-Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu’s government.

In a joint statement issued Wednesday in Abuja, the group described recent media reports suggesting their departure as “baseless and mischievous.” The statement was signed by prominent figures including former Governor Umaru Al-Makura, ex-Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari, and other founding members of the CPC bloc.

Foundation of APC

The CPC, which merged with other parties to form the APC in 2013, remains one of the ruling party’s “foundational pillars,” the leaders emphasized.

“We categorically state that we have neither left nor intend to leave the APC,” the statement read. “We stand firmly behind President Tinubu’s economic reforms and the party’s progressive ideals.”

Call for Party Unity

The leaders urged patience amid current economic challenges, asserting that Tinubu’s policies—though demanding—are vital for long-term national recovery.

“While some members may feel sidelined, these concerns aren’t unique to our bloc,” they noted. “We advise utilizing the party’s constitutional mechanisms for redress.”

The statement concluded with a call for unity: “Strengthened communication will reduce tensions and solidify support for the APC’s programs at all levels.”
