There is widespread excitement in Bauchi following the swearing-in of Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar as Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs yesterday alongside 44 others by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Yusuf Maitama Tuggar is a household name in Bauchi, and he has been active in Bauchi politics for almost two decades. His appointment as a minister has further galvanized his support base in Bauchi.

“Wallahi I am very happy because Yusuf Maitama Tuggar is the best diplomat to represent Nigeria on international stage,” said Garba Muhammad Bununu who traveled all the way from Tafawa Balewa to Bauchi APC Secretariat to express his joy over the development.
“We know what Tuggar is capable of. He is loyal and focus-driven, and we Nigerians are hopeful that he will live up to expectation,” he added.
Yusuf Maitama Tuggar who hailed from Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi was. until his recent promotion to the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a Nigerian Ambassador to Germany. He was appointed to the post in 2017 by former president Muhammad Buhari.
Yusuf Maitama Tuggar is still very active in Bauchi politics, and many observers believe that he is the most popular APC chieftain in Bauchi who has what it takes to win election in the state.
Maryam Tijjani from Azare who joined a group of supporters from Azare looked emotional as she was so excited over Yusuf Maitama Tuggar’s emergence as Minister of Foreign Affairs.
“Tuggar is our hope in Bauchi. Even though we are happy about his appointment, our hope is he would one be back to help rescue Bauchi,” she told Daily Review.
One supporter of the minister who did not want to have his name published told Daily Review that he is optimistic that Yusuf Maitama Tuggar would continue to play an active role in the affairs of his home state despite being overwhelmed by the exigency of office.
