Abuja – In a major boost to healthcare delivery, Yobe State Governor, His Excellency Hon. Mai Mala Buni CON, has approved the recruitment of 267 health technicians to address critical manpower shortages in the state’s medical facilities.

The newly employed personnel include 140 “Buni Scholars,” recent graduates in various medical fields from institutions in India. Among them are 43 BSc Nursing graduates, 43 BSc Pharmacy graduates, 22 BSc Medical Laboratory Science graduates, 24 BSc Radiology graduates, 7 BSc Optometry graduates, and 1 BSc Public Health graduate.

Additionally, Governor Buni has formalized the employment of 127 health technicians who have been serving as volunteers in healthcare institutions across the state. These individuals, who had previously graduated but were not officially employed, will now be fully integrated into the state’s healthcare workforce.

The Buni Scholars have been placed on CONHESS 8, while the volunteer technicians have been placed on CONHESS 6/2. This move highlights the administration’s dedication to recognizing and rewarding the contributions of healthcare professionals.

Over the past five years, the Buni administration has maintained a policy of automatic employment for graduates of the state-owned Shehu Sule College of Nursing and Midwifery. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to address staffing gaps and improve healthcare services for residents.

Governor Buni’s administration has also made significant investments in healthcare infrastructure. Primary Healthcare Centers have been established in every political ward across the state, ensuring that healthcare services are accessible to all. Furthermore, four General Hospitals in Gashua, Potiskum, Geidam, and Buni Yadi have been upgraded to Specialist Hospitals, while eight Primary Health Centers have been elevated to General Hospitals.

The state’s Teaching Hospital has also been equipped with modern facilities, further enhancing the quality and affordability of healthcare services for residents.

Governor Buni’s latest approval underscores his administration’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare system and addressing the critical need for skilled medical personnel in Yobe State.
