Amid the crisis in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has sent a warm message of felicitation to Governor Nyesom Wike on his 55th birthday anniversary, even going as far as telling the Rivers State helmsman to enjoy his “special day.”.
For the past few months, the PDP has been caught up in a crisis following the outcome of the presidential primaries that produced Atiku as the candidate.
The genesis of the problem started with the G-5, the five PDP governors who have vowed not to support Atiku’s presidential bid until the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, resigns.
The G-5 includes governors Wike of Rivers State, Okezie Ikeazu of Abia State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Ifeanyi Ugwanyi of Enugu State, and Samuel Ortom of Benue State.
The G-5 alleged that there is an imbalance in the composition of the leadership positions in favour of the North against the South and they consequently called for the resignation of Ayu, who is from the North, for a southerner to take his position.
However, amid the party’s uproar, Atiku took to his Twitter account on Tuesday to wish Wike, who is the unofficial leader of the G-5, a happy birthday.
The former Nigerian vice president, in a message he signed off with his ‘AA’ initials, posted a picture of Wike with the caption “many happy returns,”
Atiku’s caption read: “As you turn 55 today, I pray that all lines fall in pleasant places for you. Enjoy your special day.”
